Flower-a-Day: Daylily Riot

I have A LOT of daylilies! What's not to love about a daylily? They come in a huge variety of colors, shapes, sizes and bloom times. You plunk a rhizome in a hole in the ground in September and next summer you have a riot of color. They multiply, are pest free and can withstand some amount of drought and shade. Their only natural enemy...hungry deer. I've had my share of summers when the deer have mistaken my flower border for an all you can eat salad bar! Last year was one of those years, but the deer seem to have changed their nightly route this year and haven't bothered the garden at all. So this year I'm enjoying a riot of color. Long live the daylily!!
