Flower-a-Day: Pink Rugosa Rose

Pink Rugosa Rose, 6x8, oil/linen
$100, unframed, free shipping
OK, now this is what I'm talkin' bout...so sunny and hot today I had to wear sunscreen while I painted!! And I found a way to make my big Soleil Travers Umbrella attach to my guerilla box so I had good shade to work in. Summer weather is finally here!!! The rugosa roses, also known by many as beach roses, are in full bloom and their spicey-tea fragrance just fills the air in the garden and the bees are intoxicated with nectar. As the garden begins to come into bloom I'm noticing such energy there which I think is reflected in my paintings. Normally I think of the garden as a place of natural peace, but painting everyday in the garden has tuned me into the amazing amount of energy put forth by the plants as they begin a frenzied growth spurt as the weather warms up and the days grow longer.

Great painting Jan! To me there's movement, colour and a sharp edge where it should be. Love it!
