One of the reasons I really love the summertime are the long, long days. I painted this last night between 7 and 8 pm. It was delightful in the garden with the glowing light, the scent of lilies, the colorful flowers, everything was perfect except for the mosquitoes!!! I am really enjoying the garden this year, mostly because last year the deer ate all the lilies before they ever had a chance to bloom. Many of them were new, planted the previous fall, so I'm seeing a number of these for the first time. Perhaps the deer actually did me a favor. By eating the buds they allowed the plants to put all their energy into developing their bulbs and roots, rather than supporting a bloom and seed production. I will say that all my many lilies are spectacular this year.
